"You don't plan to breastfeed do you?"

I get this ALL the time. The answer is yes, I plan to breastfeed and hope that I can do it successfully for all three of the babies for the first 6 months at least. I know I will be a milking machine for awhile but that's OK because it's what's best for the babies (so so much cheaper than formula). We took a Breastfeeding Multiples class this morning and it was so informative. Not only for multiple moms but for someone like me who hasn't even breast fed in her life and needs to basics of how to.

All the other couples in the class were having twins and when they asked if I was going back to work they were shocked when I said yes. I will be honest, I have never wanted to be a stay at home mom. I know that may change when I have the babies but I don't know. I do wish that I could take longer than the 8 weeks given to me for maternity leave after they are born but we're both teachers and simply cannot afford it. Besides they will be taken care of by my mom and MIL when I go back and we live about 5 minutes away if I need to come home.

OK, I digress, back to the class...
it really was great but I have to say DH and I left there a little scared on how we're going to do this but I know we will make it work because there isn't any other way. I guess it just seemed so much more real with 3 dolls piled on my lap:)

Growth scan on Monday, can't wait to get a look at the little ones again.

I've never posted on your blog before, but I read. :-)

I, too, am expecting triplets and am only one day behind you (I'm 20w4d today).

I get asked the same two questions regularly also: Do you plan to breastfeed? Are you going back to work? My answer to both....absolutely! We seem to have quite a bit in common. Here in Canada though, I can take a full year off for maternity leave, which is what I'm planning to do. I'm planning to go back to work after that (I'm a teacher as well).

Anyway, just wanted to wish you luck with everything. Seems things are going well for you thus far and I hope they continue.

I've heard those same comments as well, along with references to a cow...
Try not to listen to all the naysayers, you know what you're capable of!
We have to get our butts in gear and sign up for some classes. Glad to hear all is going well!

I guess there are insensitive people all over because I too was asked the BF question. I tried diligently to nurse my preemie triplets but they never got the hang of it. But I would not be denied! I invested in an awesome Medela hands free double electric pump. So although I don't get to put them right to the breast, we do get to bond over a bottle of my breast milk. And my babies are so healthy! Don't let anyone discourage you. Do what is best for you and your family! If you ever have any questions from one triplet mom to another, just ask. Also, I too went back to work after 8 weeks and am enjoying being a working mom. It's hard to juggle everything but you can make it work.

I only have twins, but after they got a good latch I was easily able to BF them. They are almost 11 months and we're still going strong. Check out Surviving Triplets (http://survivingtriplets.blogspot.com/). Astrid did an amazing job pumping and/or BFing all three of her adorable kids. It will take work and time, but you definitely can do this if you want to.

Good luck!

Do what you want to do. If you want to breastfeed, do it. If it doesn't work or you have to figure something else out, do that too.

You don't have to be locked into one decision and by whom?
