Yesterday (and for a few days) my stomach has been really hard and yesterday I also started to have some pelvic pressure. I decided to call the doctor's office before they closed and get their opinion. Of course she said they wanted me to come in to L&D and be monitored for awhile. DH and I drove downtown and were warmly greeted when we arrived and put into a room. I was hooked up to all sorts of fetal monitors to check on the babies. The babies all sounded great but my uterus was contracting like crazy and was very irritated (that was the tightening I was feeling). They gave me a drug to help stop the contractions and it didn't work so I received a shot and that stopped them quickly. The contractions weren't that big of a deal because they weren't effecting my cervix, it was still long and closed but they still wanted to get them to stop. I was able to come home after about 4 hours there and am now on a med every 4 hours to help keep my uterus relaxed until I deliver.
I think last night was a real wake up call that I need to get a hospital bag packed, print out my birth plan etc. so that's what I plan to do today.
Here's a pic of me all hooked up to the monitors (one for each baby).

I'm glad they were able to get the contractions to stop. I had the same thing happen with my uterus at 28 weeks (singleton pregnancy, though). It never did anything to my cervix either. And I am still having those contractions at 39w5d and wouldn't you know that my cervix is still not doing anything! My point is, it's possible to have those contractions and they do nothing.
I am glad they got them to stop. I had a singelton pregnancy but was high risk. I had PTL at 29 weeks and had to be put on a Mag Sulfate IV to stop them. (The contracts were affecting my cervix). With meds and bedrest, I went 7 more weeks to 36 weeks before delivering. Take it easy and get planning, triplets like to be unpredictable.
Holy Monitors Batman!!! I am SO glad all is good. I am sure those L&D trips are super stressful.
I'm so happy to find your blog, before your crew arrives! My name is Angela and I found you thru MoM! We have, just turned, 2year old "twippets"! I'm very excited for you and can't wait to read more to catch up! I have some Expecting Triplet info on my side bar of our blog!
It's amazing how fast our bodies change and react to all that's going on in there! I'd say it's pretty common, but with us triplet moms you're better to go in and get checked everytime in case they can help stop labor if it comes to that! I was sooo ready by 32wks that looking back I wonder if I'd lost my mind! Keep on Cook'n away! hugs!
Are you on Nifedipine? I was on it from week 25 to week 35 (I got to stop taking them after I reached 35 weeks) with my twin's and carried them until week 38 when my c-section was scheduled. Worked great, contrax never changed my cervix and I'm convinced had they not scheduled my c-section at 38 weeks...I probably would have stayed pregnant! Good luck!!!
I am on Procardia
You did the right thing in calling the dr. I'm very happy it all quietened down of course but obviously the moment is getting near! Much love, Fran
You look great! I'm glad that they were able to stop those pesky contractions!
